Key Points

In Spanish, there are formal and informal ways to say "you." The formal form (usted or ustedes) is typically used when addressing individuals in positions of authority, such as teachers, police officers, or a supervisor at work. It is also used as a sign of respect, particularly when speaking to older individuals.
In Latin America, ustedes is used as the plural form of "you" in both formal and informal contexts. In Spain, however, vosotros (or the feminine vosotras) is used in informal situations.
Some pronouns in Spanish have both masculine and feminine forms. In English, we also distinguish between the masculine "he" (él in Spanish) and the feminine "she" (ella in Spanish). However, Spanish also differentiates between masculine and feminine forms for "they" (ellos/ellas) and "we" (nosotros/nosotras).
When referring to a group of only men or boys, or a mixed group of men and women, the masculine form (nosotros or ellos) is used. If the group consists entirely of women or girls, the feminine form (nosotras or ellas) is used.
Unlike English, subject pronouns in Spanish are often omitted when the subject is clear from context or indicated by the verb form.
